Herefordshire Council’s overview and scrutiny committees ensure the accountability and transparency of the council’s decision-making process. They help in developing council policy, investigate and test the options before and after decisions are taken, and look in more detail at policy areas suggested by the Cabinet, other councillors and members of the public.
Last year, the committees looked at topics including capital investment for schools, effectiveness of the planning (development control) system, the council’s budget and medium term financial strategy and the outcome of the Care Quality Commission’s inspection of Wye Valley NHS Trust.
Much of the work of the scrutiny committees is set by an annual work programme, which committee members will start developing at a workshop on Wednesday 25 May.
Residents can submit suggestions throughout the year to firstname.lastname@example.org, but to be considered at this year’s workshop suggestions must be received by mid-day Tuesday 24 May.
