This year’s Hedgehog Festival will run from Saturday 2 May to Sunday 10 May and include an exciting visit to Ross-on-Wye Children’s Centre.
The Hedgehog Festival Committee has organised a number of hedgehog themed activities in Ross-on-Wye to engage children in creative and fun projects to help them learn about hedgehogs and their habitats and the importance of preserving local wildlife.
As part of the festival, Ross-on-Wye Children’s Centre is holding a fun day of activities for families with children under five on Tuesday 5 May from 9:45am to 12:30pm for only £1.50 per family. The activities include a ceramic workshop* with Hereford College of Arts artist Bryony Burns with the creations being exhibited in the town centre over the summer, a demonstration of milking parlour crafts by Amanda Raines and hedgehog storytelling.
The day will also feature a talk by Inspired Child author Liz Buckler, entitled Inspiring Creativity in Young Children. Liz was the keynote speaker for the Montessori Schools National Conference in 2013 and believes that a child’s perception of their own success or failure in the early years sets up a pattern that affects them throughout their education.
The event will conclude with a healthy picnic lunch in the centre’s garden.

* There are limited spaces for the ceramic workshop and priority will be given to those involved in the hedgehog friendly garden project. However, a creative station and storytelling will run alongside the workshop and other activities.
