The award, which has been developed by the council’s chairman Councillor Olwyn Barnett, will celebrate the county’s most exceptional businesses, who have demonstrated a real commitment to making a positive difference in the local community.
Councillor Olwyn Barnett, chairman of Herefordshire Council said: “Following on from the success of the diamond day awards held last year to commemorate the Queen’s visit to Herefordshire, we want to recognise and celebrate local businesses which go that extra mile to add value and improvement to the quality of life for people in the county. It is an unfortunate fact that often this level of commitment and determination goes unrecognised, but this award aims to readdress this imbalance.”
She continued: “I am delighted to be involved with such a worthy award which celebrates the good work our businesses do every day in communities across the county. This is the first year we have run the diamond county award and I hope residents will help support the scheme by nominating their favourite local business, which they believe has made a real difference.”
Residents have five weeks to nominate their chosen business or businesses, when nominations open on Friday 8 February before closing on Friday 15 March. All businesses in Herefordshire are eligible for nomination, providing they have made a difference or ‘sparkled’ in the local community.
The nominating procedure is simple and can be completed by using the online form on the council website at www.herefordshire.gov.uk/diamondcountyaward.
Alternatively, nominations can be accepted by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to Herefordshire Diamond County Award 2013, FREEPOST RTCL-SSAB-YCBR, Chairman of Herefordshire Council, 35 Hafod Road, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR1 1SH.
