Councillor John Jarvis has announced he intends to resign from the office of leader when the council has its next full meeting on 24 May 2013.
He is stepping down for personal and medical reasons but will remain a councillor until the next county elections in 2015.
Councillor Jarvis has been a councillor with Herefordshire Council for more than seven years and leader of the council for two years. He says, “During this time, I have worked with teams of dedicated, hardworking and professional people and would like to thank them for all their tremendous support, particularly in the last two years. We have achieved a lot and Herefordshire will be a far better place as a result.
“Although stepping down from the role of leader, I will remain a councillor and will continue to help the council manage some of the challenges it faces. In particular I’ll be helping the council focus on protecting vulnerable people, supporting the local economy and making sure we have new and affordable homes for our growing communities.”
In line with the council’s constitution, the leading group will nominate a new leader at its AGM on 9th May. At the meeting of Full Council on 24th May, the new leader will be elected.
