The council found out on Friday that the current operators who have a 17 year lease on the venue intend to cease operations at the end of the year.
Cllr John Jarvis, leader of the Council, said:
“I was shocked by the news. Horseracing is an important part of Herefordshire’s culture and the local economy.
“I will do everything I can to ensure that that the racecourse continues to operate.
“The council is currently in discussion with the leaseholder of the racecourse about how we can secure along term future for the racecourse..
“I have been heartened by the response from race goers and local people who love the racecourse.
“I want to work with those people to see what we can do to keep racing in the County, which is such an important part of Herefordshire life.
