Hereford Bike Hire is a joint venture between Herefordshire Council who financed the facility through the Destination Hereford project, Pedal a Bike Away who supply and maintain the bikes and Halo who manage the facility.
A range of adult’s and children’s bikes can be hired all year round for anything from half a day up to five days, seven days a week and with its central location in Hereford, it offers the perfect base from which to explore the city and beyond.
Councillor Graham Powell, cabinet member for education and infrastructure, said: “We’re delighted with Hereford’s new bike hire facility and its central location on Bishops Meadow. The city centre has needed a different type of leisure facility for some time and we’re proud to now be able to offer one to residents and visitors.”
“Hereford and the surrounding area is a beautiful location to explore, especially by bike and to help people enjoy our county, we’ve also developed a range of interesting cycling routes incorporating the Breinton Loop and Haywood Country Park.”
Simon Gwynne, Halo’s Hereford Leisure Pool Manager, said: “We’re pleased to be working with Herefordshire Council and Pedal a Bike Away to offer such an exciting and worthwhile facility for residents and visitors.”
“Cycling is a good way to help the environment while also staying fit and enjoying a healthy lifestyle. Don’t worry if you feel a little nervous about getting on a bike, as our friendly staff will be on hand to help you out and Bishops Meadow provides the perfect safe setting for getting started.”
“We’ve already had eight bookings and considering we’ve only just opened and the weather’s not been very hospitable, it’s an incredibly encouraging start. Don’t forget, even if you’re not hiring a bike ‘The Cabin’ offers a lovely picnic site and sells a range of snacks and ice creams, which is perfect for when the sun finally shines!”
