Herefordshire's young musicians take to the stage

Spring is striking a chord with young musicians across the county as rehearsals are stepped up a notch for three big musical events next month.

On Wednesday 2nd May 2012, the Herefordshire Youth Orchestra will be showcasing some of the finest young musical talent in the county at the Shirehall in Hereford at 7.30pm.  There will be around 50 youngsters performing an exciting musical programme which includes:

Symphony no. 6, Antonin Dvorák
Overture The Merry Wives of Windsor, Otto Nicolai
1st mvt from Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra, Carl Maria von Weber (with 18 year old soloist Polly Horton)
Melodies from Der Rosenkavalier, Richard Strauss
Mancini Memories, Henry Mancini

Other concerts scheduled for May include a night of Orchestras, Wednesday 9th May and Bands on Thursday 10th May, both starting at 7pm in the Shirehall.

Cliff Woollard, head of Herefordshire Council’s music service, said: “We have some very talented and dedicated young people in Herefordshire and our three concerts in May give them the chance to perform in front of a live audience as an ensemble.  This experience itself is incredibly valuable and helps their musical development.”

All the concerts are open to members of the public.  Under 18s can come along and see what their peers have been working on for free.  Adults can pay on the door –  £4 or £3 for concessions.
